Sequía y hambre en las Canarias Orientales (1624-1671)

Abstract

El objeto de este trabajo es la caracterización del régimen de lluvias Fuerteventura y Lanzarote entre 1628 y 1671. Los resultados obtenidos se basan en la recopilación de proxy-data, extraídos de los Acuerdos del cabildo de Fuerteventura, las Actas del Cabildo de Lanzarote y otras fuentes bibliográficas, con las que hemos contextualizado la vida durante este periodo para las islas. Junto con la aproximación del clima durante el siglo XVII. Este periodo, además se encuentra inmerso en la Pequeña Edad del Hielo, produjo una tasa de temperatura baja produciéndose, en nuestro país, grandes heladas, inundaciones y sequías. Todo ello intercalando años más suaves e incluso calurosos. Influenciadas las islas por esta fase fría en la historia climática, tanto en Fuerteventura como en Lanzarote se dejaron ver gravísimas sequías, hambrunas, plagas y despoblamiento.

The aim of this work is to carry out a characterization of the precipitation trends in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote since 1628 to 1671. The results obtained are based on, proxy-data, provited from the Agreements for the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, and for the cabildo of Lanzarote and other wrothrn spurses, with which we have contextualized the way of life during this period for both the islands. In addition we did an approach on of the climate along the seventeenth century. This period belonging to the Little Ice Age, when the declining temperature produced frosts, floods and droughts. All of this is interspersed with milder and even warmer years. Influenced the islands by this cold phase, both in Fuerteventura and in Lanzarote were allowed to see severe droughts, with the consecuencies as starvation, plagues and depopulation.
