El sistema agrario de La Esperanza: Causas del declive y su deterioro.

Abstract

La relación del hombre con el medio en el territorio de La Esperanza fue fundamental para la obtención de recursos que permitiera su subsistencia. Conocer el espacio desde la costa hasta la cumbre se convirtió en imprescindible y con esa visión del espacio y de las necesidades, el agricultor tradicional fue diseñando un sistema agrario que se fundamentaba en un aprovechamiento vertical y múltiple que se desarrollaría hasta los años 50 del siglo XX. A partir de entonces, el comienzo de la agricultura intensiva en los países europeos, produce un cambio en el modelo económico en Canarias que desvirtúa y desconfigura la alta tasa de autosuficiencia y sostenibilidad del sistema que se venía gestando. La Esperanza, unos de los espacios más fértiles y productivos de la isla, ha encontrado dificultades de todo tipo para mantener un sistema agrario en desarrollo que evitara la desaparición y despojo de estas actividades agropecuarias. Este estudio utiliza el método del análisis geográfico regional aplicado a este espacio en concreto, tratando de explicar, a través de las aportaciones de las fuentes orales, normativas, cartográficas, sociales e históricas, ciertas claves que han incidido en el abandono agrario esperancero, con el objetivo de replantear la situación actual a partir de las conclusiones obtenidas.

Man's relationship with the environment in the territory of La Esperanza was instrumental in order to get resources which allow their subsistence. To know the space from the coast to the mountains became essential and with that vision of space and needs, the traditional farmer was designing a farming system that was based on a vertical and multiple utilization and that would develop until the 50s of the 20th century. Since then, the beginning of the intensive agriculture in European countries, has produced a change in the economic model in the Canary Islands that subverts and misconfigure the self-sufficiency and sustainability of the system that had been brewing. The Esperanza town, one of the most fertile and productive spaces of the island, which has encountered difficulties of all kinds to keep a solvent agricultural system that will prevent the spoil of the activities in their own lands. This study is based on regional analysis of this specific area, trying to explain through a study of oral sources, regulatory, social and historical mapping, certain aspects that have influenced the agricultural abandonment of La Esperanza, aiming to rethink the situation from the conclusions.
