K1 Aborígenes canarios K1 Enseñanza secundaria K1 Geografía K1 Historia AB This paper offers a general overview of the influence of the school on the idea that highschool students have about the prehispanic history of the Canary Islands. For this study,we have used 196 drawings, made by 1st and 4th of ESO students from 3 differenteducational centers, and textbooks of the subjects of Geography and History from 2nd ofESO and Geography and History of the Canary Islands from 4th of ESO. These sourcesof information were analysed and related to the formation of the Canarian identity aroundthe myth of "good savage", taking into account the close relationship between thediscourse transmitted on schools and the mythification of the indigenous. So that, we havebeen able to observe how the vision proposed by historians, who have made use ofprimary information sources and the scientific method, is not the image that is beingtransmitted on a regular basis in schools.
