K1 Comprensión auditiva K1 Enseñanza secundaria AB This Master’s Degree Final Project is focused on the role of listening comprehension in Englishas a foreign language classes. Its main objective is to analyse all the elements involved duringthe development of a listening activity in order to implement an improved listening activity.Following this line, this project reflects the most relevant teaching approaches, the importanceof this skill for the curricula programme, the emotional factors that affect the students and,finally, the advantages of establishing a three-staged task: pre-listening, while-listening andpost-listening activities.The study was carried on a group of 4th of Secondary Education from a high-school located inSanta Cruz de Tenerife, in an area characterised by a low socio-economic profile. It began withthe observation of the usual procedure of the subject and the behavior and attitude of thestudents towards it, in conjunction with the analysis of the interviews addressed to both teachersand students. Once the data was collected, the next step was the design and implementation ofthe activities, which were created in response to the students’ levels and their interest in orderto improve not only their listening skills but also their self-efficacy and motivation. The resultsthat we obtained were highly satisfactory as regards the students’ degree of motivation and thedevelopment of their listening skills, although we also found some deficiencies that could beimproved by means of some pedagogical suggestions that we offer in this study.
