The figure of the artist-educator could play the role of "transforming agent" withinthe area of artistic education in secondary formal school. This study deepens the opinion of fiveteachers who are or have been active in Tenerife and other islands from the Canary Islands. Thepossibilities of art education to adapt a counterhegemonic perspective in practice, could changeschool culture through the role of the Art teacher. Starting from the autobiography of theinterviewed teaching staff, the importance of this in their teaching work, as well as their opinion onthe possibilities of including the critical spirit and the awareness on the cultural diversity in the areaof Art education in high school.
