Oxford’s learning strategies, which are classified as cognitive,metacognitive and social. These were applied at the Güímar High School in Tenerife.Particularly, we focused on the group of ESO 3rd-year students ranging from 14 to 15years old. We have followed the decree promulgated by the Department of Educationand Universities of the Canary Islands Autonomous Government. Readers will findclose relationships between the regulations of this decree and the didactic topic, whichis centered on a case study about the use of Oxford’s strategies as the main basis formeaningful teaching. Indeed, this research proves how effective is the daily use ofstrategies in learning the communicative function related to future events. Likewise, itshows how to develop key competences. The final results illustrate the flexible and 3adaptive nature of the cognitive, metacognitive and social strategies used in class,allowing teachers to improve students’ linguistic skills and develop their autonomy,among other aspects.Keywords: Rebecca L.
