AB This article offers a survey of French historiography in the field of Medieval Urban History,whereby its rich production is confirmed, despite the occasional unfavourable conditionsfor research and edition. The work refers as well to the main virtues and flaws in the bibliographicalbody produced. Among the former, the efforts undertaken to widen the fieldtowards other geographical areas and the wish for renewal in the discipline are worth noting;as for the latter, the meagreness of synthesis works is outstanding as well as the scarcity ofrecord repertories and the difficulty of these results in attaining a wide distribution abroad.
