AB «The outset of creation and the origin of life: on water cosmogony in Islam». This paperresults from the reassessment of all the verses in the Koran mentioning the word water, aswell as of those showing a terminological or conceptual relationship with this element,though not referring to it explicitly. Of the main fields of ritual, eschotology and cosmogonywhich convey an interest in water, our major concern will be with the third one. Dealingwith these crucial Islamic aspects from the point of view of cosmogony requires the researchof the presence of water at the beginning of Creation and its relationship with God, its rolein the origin of life and animals, as well as in human beginnings.
