AB The author of this paper develops and comments, quoting the original texts, the narrationof the legend on the voyage of Saint Brendan and Saint Maclow, two fifth-century sailormonks, in the Atlantic Ocean and their arrival at the «Fortunatae Insulae», identified as theCanary Islands, as it appears in a 17th-century work written in Latin on the trip carried outby the first Vicar-general of America —named by pope Alexander VI— who accompaniedChristopher Columbus in the year 1493.
