AB This paper explores the ways in which the Greek mind derived a notionof time's cyclical nature from the sleep/wakefulness alternation, as well asthe influence of sleep/death dichotomies on Greek views of eternity.Particular attention is paid to figures in myth and history, such as theSleeping Cronos, Endymion, Cleobis and Biton, the Cretan Epimenides andthe Sardinian heroes.
