AB This article deals with Lucretius' phonetic theory, focusing on his reflections on the nature of the human voice, on the way in which it is emitted andperceived, as well as on its articulation in phonemes and in the words formed bytheir available combinations. The study reveals glimpses of the later physicalphonetics and some evidence of the distinction between pattern and language.
