In spite of itspresent day prominence in the critical reception of the text, sexuality in the tales seems tolose relevance at a closer look, as its presence seems to be congenial on the consecution ofsocial satire. This paper argues that sex walks hand in hand with laughter as a means toachieve this didactic purpose; and it explores how sex and love help to establish a series ofthematic lines around the joys and woes of marriage life. This motif allows a dialogic relationship between traditional views of genre and social relations and less conventional attitudes that seem to promote mutuality between the spouses.
