AB Management accounting is a tool that is currently fundamental for generating informationand supporting management in companies in general and in health institutions in particular. Forthis reason, the objective of this work is to study the efficiency and productivity of Canarian publichospitals through an analysis of their costs. The development of the methodology will focus on theuse of a complete cost model using the data available from a reference hospital on the islands suchas the University Hospital of Canary. The study shows that the Canarian health system hasproblems of efficiency and productivity and needs a restructuring that allows it to provide qualityservices while being efficient in the use of its resources.
