AB The present work consists of a historical review on a still unknown topic, autism. The paperbegins with the brief description of the evolution of the concept of autism since before LeoKanner named it in 1943 to the present.The following are 29 references dating from 1976 to 2018, in which autism is discussed andvarious topics related to this main theme are discussed. These subtopics are: the definition,because it has changed a lot over the years; the etiology, since despite having passed 76 yearssince its discovery, the cause of this syndrome is still unknown; the diagnosis, given that manypeople are often misdiagnosed and there is really a diversity of evaluation instruments that areunknown; the current revision; since it shows the great change that has taken place in this field;and, the educational / therapeutic program, after which there are currently many people withASD and it is interesting to know new programs to work with them and get the most out ofthem.The work ends with a conclusion in which the author expresses her opinion about autismtoday.
