AB The following report examines the municipal budgets of several municipalities in Canaryislands in turbulent years from 1927 to 1955. This era saw the end of the dictatorship of Primo deRivera, the birth of the spanish Second Republic, Civil War and a difficult post-world war II period,along with autarchic politics in the first Franquismo that overemphasized the enormous fragility ofan open and dependent island model. Documentation pertaining to budget liquidations wasanalysed with a specific focus on spending. The analysis is focused on quantifying the impactspending growth in the economic structures of individual municipalities and the islands’population in general.
