AB In 1962, Arthur Okun empirically analysed the relationship between production volume andunemployment in the United States. Since then, several researchers have done studies in othereconomies, highlighting the differences between them. In line with this literature, this report seeksto verify, first, whether this relationship is also present in Spain, and second, to analyse its degreeof heterogeneity at the regional level and its degree of cyclical asymmetry. For this, the specificationof the model in differences proposed by Okun was used, with quarterly data for the period between2002 and 2018.The results obtained suggest that the "Okun Law" is fulfilled in Spain and that,among the autonomous communities, there are heterogeneous behaviours, as well as within eachregion depending on the economic cycle.
