AB The growth of tourism has allowed the sector to be positioned among the most important in theworld. Certain areas have reached a high level of specialization and over-dependence of tourismactivity, these are called micro-destinations. The Canary Islands is one of the regions with thegreatest weight in the development of tourism at national level, the presence of micro-destinationsis very abundant and varied, with a total of 47. This document aims to detect the balance of positiveand negative impacts generated by the presence of micro-destinations in the local population andits surroundings, using the municipality of Arona as an example. To this end, a descriptive analysisof the main indicators has been carried out for the municipality and its component microdestinations: Las Américas-Arona, Los Cristianos and Las Galletas As a conclusion, the balanceis positive although uneven depending on the type of indicator, the economic being not the mostfundamental.
