AB This paper deals with the belief in the living dead (revenants) during the Middle Ages inEurope. Particularly, I will focus on the vampire, a special type of revenant characterised bythe consumption of human flesh and blood. In the last section, the analysis of severalmedieval works written in England will prove that, after the fall of the Roman Empire, theearliest cases of vampirism recorded in texts were produced in the British Isles.
