AB This work pays attention to the success achieved by the figure of the wild man, a specialsubject through which the interaction of orality, written literature and iconography may beassessed. Conceiving this figure as the result of intermingled diverse traditions and patterns, the fashion of wildness is connected to the liking for the rustic component at the endof the fifteenth century, as well as to the attraction for the monstrous element, which persists during most of the seventeenth century. The work also adds some considerations aboutthe survival of the motive of the wild man in America.
