Several studieshave shown the association between parasitic infections and carcinogenicity in humans. Therefore, this Final Degree Project reviews the relationship between Plasmodium falciparuminfection and the development of Burkitt's lymphoma, in which the presence of Epstein Barrvirus in the host it is essential. It has been observed that chronic infection with the Epstein Barrvirus is related to the appearance of different oncological processes such as Burkitt's lymphoma, gastric cancer or nasopharyngeal cancer. On the other hand, it has been shown that Plasmodiumfalciparum, in its erythrocytic phase, acts as a cofactor in the development of Burkitt'slymphoma due to 3 different mechanisms, all of them involving the host’s immune system.Although the mechanisms by which Burkitt's lymphoma develops are not completely definedyet, it is deduced that there is a relationship between the coinfection of Epstein-Barr virus andPlasmodium falciparum and the development of Burkitt's lymphoma. Finally, this project willanalyze the possibilities of counteracting these immunological mechanisms to avoid thedevelopment of Burkitt's lymphoma.
