AB It is expected that by the year 2050, 2000 million people over 60 years will live in the world, 22% ofthe population. Improve the quality of life of these people and the costs that the diseases associatedwith aging generate, becomes a global priority.Although geroprotective drugs to treat aging, aren`t currently available, metformin and rapamacinehave shown to increase life expectancy and have improved associated diseases in trials carried outwith experimental animals. This opens a door to the study and extrapolation of these results tohumans, with the complications that this entails. This review identifies the main targets involved in the aging process that could be part of the responseto this problem, as well as the connection presented by these targets with drugs and substances thatcan improve human health with the minimum of side effects. Also, in this work a brief summary is made of those substances with geroprotector activity and thecharacteristics that they present.
