A1 González Galván, Melania Antonia K1 Asma, Obesidad, Genética, Polimorfismo de nucleótido único AB Obesity and asthma are two disorders with a high prevalence in the currentsociety, which generate a significant impact on public health. The first is defined as theabnormal or excessive accumulation of fat, and asthma is described as a chronicdisease that affects the respiratory system. Several studies have established arelationship between both conditions, and obesity acts a risk factor and/or as anasthma modifier, intensifying the symptoms or increasing the frequency of them. Inaddition, there is an important hereditary component for the two conditions. Theobjective of this work is to identify the shared genetic factors between obesity andasthma. A literature review identified several association studies of candidate genesand genome-wide approaches focused on the shared genetic factors between asthmaand obesity. They show a causal effect of asthma on obesity and the importance of thepolymorphisms of the genes encoding the β2-adrenergic receptor (ADRB2), the β3-adrenergic receptor (ADRB3), the tumor necrosis factor (TNF), the protein kinase-cα(PRKCA); as well as a common genomic inversion in chromosome 16. In conclusion, genetic studies indicate the existence of genetic polymorphisms involved in the sharedetiology of asthma and obesity.
