Hypericum perforatum commonly named St John´s Herb have interestingproperties in treatment against low and mid-grade depression diseases. Therapeutic activities from St John´s Herb is performed by secondary metabolites, concretely Hyperforin. Theplant synthesizes secondary metabolites in response against a plethora of outside stimulus. The study and use of these external signals to increase a known and pharmacological interesting metabolite is called elicitation. In this work the initial purpose was use drought as elicitor to increase Hyperforinconcentration in Hypericum. However, problems in germination prevent us to reach thisgoal. After the initial germination problems, we performed different seed pre-treatments,testing 14 different treatments using 7 climatic conditions. Among them, our results indicates that the key conditions for Hypericum perforatum germination is, firstly an stratification period of 1 month, using Giberilic acid at 2,5 mM and 24 hours of light photoperiodusing with high luminity (1.000 μmol/m2s). This preliminary work shows the difficulties towork with this specie and offers some keys to follow in future works.
