The Inquisition in the Canary Islands wasn´t constituted in a different wayfrom the peninsular. However, this territory had its own peculiarities such as theremoteness of the European continent, insularity, poverty and the plurality of populationgroups. For further understanding of the subject, we will begin studying the problem ofcoexistence between the three main religious confessions present in the Peninsula duringthe Middle Ages and the origin of the Inquisition in the fifteenth century. Then we willend up studying the particularities of the Inquisition in the Canary Islands, beginningwith the Conquest of the Canary Islands and its consequences, reviewing the inquisitiveactivity prior to 1505, ending with the analysis of the Court of the Holy Office of theCanary Islands and its actions during the sixteenth century.
