AB This work presents a survey of the financial contribution deriving from some pecuniaryburdens and duties placed on those products and activities carried out by the Castilliansthroughout the Atlantic expansion enterprise in the late Middle Ages. Taking as sources thewide bibliography available and the extant documents at the files of the Simancas Archivesand the Public Municipal Record Office at Seville, we attempt to assess the contribution ofsome of the taxes obtained both from the Canary Islands and the African coastal activitiesto the basic revenues of the Castillian Crown between the end of the 15th and the beginningof the 16th centuries.
