K1 saldo comercial K1 crédito agrario K1 capital líquido K1 fluctuación monetaria AB The urban and agrarian loan in La Palma was considerably introduced among the mostdynamic sections of society from the sixteenth century, quite the opposite to what tookplace in other areas of the Archipielago. By the beginning of the seventeenth century, theisland’s financial development resulted in a positive monetary fluctuation generated, on theone hand, by a favourable commercial balance and, on the other, by the extension of vineexport cultivation, showing a dense network of private loan, the capital of which camefrom trade, agrarian incomes and pious funds of ecclesiastical institutions. During the seventeenthcentury the loan census became a key factor in order to understand a part of theisland’s ploughing process, cultivation intensification, improvement in lands and rapid introductionof the vine in new island areas, since their owners han liquid assets to make theinvestment.
