RT info:eu-repo/semantics/bookPart T1 A dictionary of visual analogies A1 Perondi, Luciano A1 Ferrari, Marco A1 Ricci, Donato K1 Analogy K1 Information Design K1 Scientific Representation AB This paper discusses a theoretical framework for a research aimed toproduce a dictionary of visual analogies used for the explanation of scientifictheories, collected both from historical and contemporary sources. The artifactswill be indexed through a set of criteria and tags that will allow to navigate thecontents and map correlations across time, scientific domains and types ofpublication. The archive will grow as an open-ended accumulation of examples, adapting the methodology for the selection and organisation of the analogiesbased on the new entries. A set of visualisations will be used in order to navigatethe archive and make emerging patterns legible. The initial method ofclassification will be based on the faceted system envisioned by Luca Rosati(Rosati, 2015), in which artifacts are tagged and tags are organised according toa faceted classification. Tags will not be mutually exclusive, but they’ll act likeattributes: each entry may have multiple tags, the number of which can growwithout any limit or predetermined direction.
