AB Despite Islam, together with the Jewish and Christian religions, condemns laughter andjocosity, Islamic societies in their daily life never deprived of the consolation and pleasure oflaughter, neither of the satisfaction of joking. For this reason literature provides us withsome scattered humoristic anecdotes. We will specially analyse humour in the cejel, since itis a research field scarcely cultivated up to now.
