A1 Méndez García, María del Carmen K1 mediador cultural K1 versatilidad cultural/culturalmente versátil K1 inglés como lengua extranjera K1 estudiantes de Filología Inglesa K1 competencia intercultural/comunicación intercultural AB Intercultural communication and intercultural competence do not constitute an explicitcomponent in the teacher training programmes of either prospective primary or secondaryschool EFL teachers in many Spanish universities. However, lecturers and professors atuniversity agree on the development of intercultural competence as one of the most rel-evant skills and competence in English Philology students. This paper aims at showingthat, in the absence of specific courses on the matter, prospective EFL teachers’ develop-ment of intercultural competence may be uneven and dependent on personal factors. Stu-dents’ current intercultural skills are here analysed at one university in Andalusia on thebasis of their performance in class, in particular, in two activities carried out in an ELTmethodology course which required a high degree of intercultural competence for theircorrect implementation.
