AB Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) are mainly constituted by ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease (CD), which represents chronic autoimmuneconditions that affect the homeostasis of the intestinal mucosa. The causes related of IBD remain unclear. However, recent studies have shown that both genetic background and environmental factors are involved in the pathogenesis of IBDs. In this sense, in the past years genome-wide association studies have identified numerous alleles associated with the risk of CD.In this work, a bibliography search has been carried out in order to identify the most important genes and genetic variants associated with CD, as well asthe evidences that supports their relationship with the disease. Results showed that NOD2, ATG16L1, IRGM, LRRK2 and ATG7 genes represent the mostimportant candidates to be involved in CD pathogenesis and development. Moreover, genetic variants in these genes associated with CD have been identified, and the molecular mechanisms in which these genes are involvedhave been studied.
