For example, the Spanish homeownershipindex is about 50% higher than in Germany and Austria, where renting is the common way ofhousing. The main goal of this project is identifying the most relevant factors explaining thedecision of housing in Europe (homeownership versus renting). To do that, we have estimatedseveral models including key social and economic indicators for 2016. We obtain that householdincome is the most significant explanatory variable but, against the departing hypothesis, thisvariable income has a negative effect on the homeownership index. Besides, we found that thepercentage of people over 65 years and the female employment rate are significant explanatoryvariables and they also have a negative relationship with the homeownership index YR 2020 FD 2020 LK http://riull.ull.es/xmlui/handle/915/20641 UL http://riull.ull.es/xmlui/handle/915/20641 LA es DS Repositorio institucional de la Universidad de La Laguna RD 17-nov-2025
