AB This work analyzes the commercial importance of market places and squares in the lateMiddle Ages. Although particular emphasis is given to inner trade, also the temporal andspatial evolution of commerce, specially in the kingdom of Castile, is assessed. As tradingactivity carried out in these centers spread to surrounding areas, it fostered the growth ofsocial and economic hierarchies in towns and villages, which affected products, techniques,different levels of infrastructures, etcetera.
