Departamento de Geografía e Historia K1 Urbanismo AB The work has two main aims, one of which is to analyze the institutional production of the image of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in a context marked by efforts directed at strengthening its touristic and commercial functions and linked to the transformation of its physical appearance over the last three decades (1980-2014). The other main aim is to explore the spatial practices of the citizens in several open public spaces integrated into different urban renewal proposals -some of which are associated with the renovation of the waterfront in the historic centre and another new creation in the periphery- trying to identify whether people by using and visiting them, violate/appropriate these spaces by giving them a meaning -different to the original intention-.As the interpretive framework, it is understood that the urban structure has implications for the development of social relations and the organization of production. Following the theory of Henri Lefebvre, who through a triad of concepts: the perceived space, conceived space and lived space, tried to understand how space is produced by the different stakeholders. The methodology used consists of a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods.
