AB Many are the studies that show the current mismatch between the competencies acquired inuniversity degrees and those required by the Spanish labor market. In this context, the main goalof this document is focused on studying what determinants influence the educational setting ofyoung people, which will allow assessing the quality of the job placement. A probit model has beenestimated using data from the Labor Insertion Survey of University graduates (EILU) of the 2009-2010 academic year. Our results suggest that: choosing degrees in social sciences or arts andhumanities, working in something that is not related to the field of your studies or usinginappropriate job search tools, are some factors that put at risk the educational setting in the firstjob of young university students. In contrast, studying at private university or studying abroadthrough Erasmus scholarship, protect the graduate from suffering a future overqualification.
