AB Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability in adults. Eighty-fivepercent of this event is due to ischemic origin; it occurs due to an occlusion in the bloodsupply that causes tissue hypoxia, resulting in the nucleus of the lesion. Current treatmentsare aimed at restoring blood perfusion; however, they are only effective in the first hoursafter the stroke, which is a narrow therapeutic window that leaves a large number ofpatients out and consequently with neuronal sequelae that are often irreversible.Due to the need for a therapy that promotes the regeneration of damaged tissue, apromising option has been developed with the transplantation of exogenous stem cells.Nevertheless, it poses several problems such as poor cell survival in the hostileenvironment of stroke, difficulty in crossing the blood-brain barrier or difficulty in celldifferentiation among others. The use of hydrogels offers the possibility of obtaining aprotective vehicle that provides an adequate environment for cells to survive, proliferateand differentiate. They also allow the encapsulation and release of different drugs orgrowth factors to improve the treatment of stroke.
