AB The Spanish presence on the African continent has developed in different stages andin different geographical areas throughout history. The expansive policy of the Catholickings and, especially of the crown of Aragon for the control of trade in the waters ofthe Mediterranean and their fight against the Ottoman Empire, made the North Africancoast a strategic place to annex to the crown, after conquering the last peninsulafrterritories in the hands of the Muslims.Moved by the fishing wealth of the waters of the African Atlantic coast, Spanishfishing industries are established in Western Sahara that with the passage of time, thatthe annexation of various African territories came to form the province of the SpanishWestern Sahara. The Franco regime included the province of Western Sahara asSpanish territory with a law that contemplated the particularities of a people that wastraditionally nomadic, including Koranic law and the customary law of the tribes.Finally, the claims promoted by the kingdom of Morocco end up generating numerousrevolts and attacks against the Spanish army and population, this would end with thegreen march and the hasty departure from that Spanish territory.
