Polysiphonia flocculosa (Rhodophyta, Rhodomelaceae) A1 Afonso Carrillo, Julio A1 Rojas González, Berta A2 BotánicaEcología y Fisiología Vegetal A2 Botánica Marina AB Toe vegetative and reproductive morphology and thedistribution in the Canary Islands of Polysiphoniaflocculosa are examined.Toe Canarian plants are characterized by axes with four pericentral cellsdensely corticated and are in agreement with previous descriptions of thespecies, but it exhibit reduced dimensions. lt is a spring-annual species thatgrow epilithically in tide pools of exposed stations. Spermatangial axes arecylindrical, without sterile terminal cells, and they replacing a branch of atrichoblast at the level of the first dichotomy. Cystocarps are subsphericaland pedicellate, with polygonal and irregularly arranged outer pericarpcells, larger around the ostiole. Tetrasporangia are formed in spiral series interminal branches.
