AB Trafficking in human beings is a global problem that has increased in recent years,especially in the Canary Islands due to migration, so that we are facing a form of crimein which the purpose of exploitation acquires relevance given the great demand forsexual services, with Spain being the first country in Europe and the third in the worldin prostitution consumption, followed by Switzerland, in the case of Europe, andsurpassed, on a global level, by Thailand and Puerto Rico.This paper analyses the crime of trafficking in human beings for the purpose of sexualexploitation (art. 177 bis) CP). Among other aspects, we will address the doctrinaldiscussion on the protected legal right, the delimitation of the typical conduct and themeans of commission.It will also deal with the problems of authorship and participation in the offence, aswell as those related to the degree of execution. Finally, the penalties applicable to bothnatural and legal persons will be described, describing the basic and aggravatedoffences and the problems that this offence may present in the context of sexualexploitation.
