The stratum corneum of the skin represents the main effective barrier totopical and transdermal drug release. The transport through the skin plays a fundamentalrole in this type of systems, being very important the application of physical methods thatwill help to improve it, as well as to increase the permeability of the drug in the skin. Inaddition, it is possible to enhance drug penetration through the use of absorptionpromoters, among other physical methods such as heat, iontophoresis or sonophoresis.Throughout this work we show the trends found in these types of delivery systems in thelast 10 years, which concludes a further study of these pharmaceutical forms that are incontinuous progress. It is elaborated and determined by consulting different databasesand articles. However, they show certain drawbacks that make it a promising technique with limited use.
