In the event that shecould not have them, it became necessary to divorce or resort to alternative methods thattoday we can call surrogate motherhood; in the event that she did not marry, the womanwas refused to live in concubinage or be considered a prostitute. In any of the status inwhich women found themselves, it played a significant role in the history of the same, since, despite being subordinate to men and being a civilization with firm patriarchalstructures, the Roman woman was not a "defenseless creature" and without legal rights, compared to other ancient civilizations.
