T1 Some Old English Phenomena and Syllable Structure

AB This paper analyzes some phonological problems in Old Englishwithin a syllable structure frame-work. Solutions within this frameworkare posited for phenomena such as the -u/Ø alternation in neutera-nouns, long-stemmed disyllable words with apparent loss of medialvowel when inflectional endings are added and compensatory lengtheningin strong nouns. The syllable structure framework provides a simpleraccount of these phenomena.
