AB One of the most required landmarks in literary criticism is the recognition,study and investigation on the intertextual resonance of literary texts. Theyconform a tradition in which every text has historical relationships withothers that came before it and after it 1. In the following essay, I will attemptfirst to present a diachronic synthesis of dialectal usages in English literature:the function of non-standard varieties and their representation in the works ofparticular authors. This historical background will provide the necessarycontext to proceed to offer and contrast the contributions made through thenovelistic production of D.H. Lawrence.
