AB This paper presents a general discussion of the possibilities of a disciplinethat can study texts scientifically. The notions of text and context, togetherwith other concepts, such as strategies, stereotypes, etc. are examinedaccording to different perspectives and proposals put forward by severallinguists; all this leads to the conclusion that strategies and tactics that help inthe construction of texts do not really constitute a science, but an art.
