AB Based on the study of hunting treatises written in Spanish between the 14th and 16th cen-turies, this article aims to investigate the process of «rehabilitation» of medieval dog. Forthis purpose, this work highlights the function both practical and symbolic of the dogthroughout the hunt to demonstrate its indispensable role. Afterwards, it focuses moreprecisely on the role performed by the animal within the hunting ritual as an instrumentof legitimization of the social hierarchy.
