The stories of devout pilgrims give an account of their faithin Santa María de Guadalupe, and are collected by anonymous monks and copyists in chargeof expurgating, from these generally individual experiences, any heretical connotation. Dueto references to biblical texts, sermons and bestiaries, mainly, they manage to underline thesensory and affective links between the religious experiences of the pilgrims and the truthsof the Christian faith. That is why the sensoriality of the animal world is very importantin the narratives referring to the liberation of Christian captives in the hands of the Moorsduring the 15th and 16th centuries: the sensory experiences indicated in the discourse allowidentifying the common ties and the particularities of the Christian group and oppose it tothe Muslim community.
