RT info:eu-repo/semantics/article T1 Los cuentos de hadas de Angela Carter: la difícil descolonización de la mente A1 Carrera Suárez, Isabel AB This paper is an exploration of the extent to which Carter'sThe Bloody Chamber contributes to the task of "decolonising themind" by exposing the social constructs of femininity and of sexualrelations. In making explicit the symbols of pornography, marriageand romantic love inherent in the tales, the false universals thatthese three social institutions create are shown to be dehumanising, producing polarized "types" of woman and man, who maintaingrossly unequal relationships. The author's pastiche techniquerelates the world of sexual violence of the traditional tales to that ofcontemporary society, with its rigid gender norms which are anobstacle to a free, humane world. The Bloody Chamber thusreflects Carter's search for the transformation both of society and ofliterary forms. PB Universidad de La Laguna.
