AB Throughout the history of the urban Law, the planningpermission has been considered as the corner stone of citizen intervention inthe urbanization process. This regard has diminished in recent years to givemore prominence to other administrative acts such as the prior comunicationor the responsible declaration, whether because of a more simple procedureor lesser administrative participation in the obtainment process of the latter,for the sake of stimulating citizen participation in the city´s urbanization,edification, rehabilitation and restauration processes.This work aims to analize the figure of the planning permission in theAutonomous Community of Canarias, beginning with its legislativeevolution throught both estate and autonomous laws, while also looking atjurisprudence, key element for allowing Autonomous Communitys todevelop its own laws in this matter, as it occur with the STC 61/1997. Wewill also study the permission as a concept, analizing its components, aswell as the obtainment process, from the initial application to the finalresolution, ending with a brief study on the effect produced by theadministrative silence in this figure throught several legal texts
