K1 La Ley de Okun es una herramienta que nos permite comprender la dinámica entre desempleo y
crecimiento ajustada a distintos contextos. Creada por Arthur M. Okun, esta ley establece una relación
inversa entre desempleo y crecimiento económico, principalmente por el comportamiento de la
demanda laboral y la eficiencia en periodos de expansión y de recesión. La magnitud y estabilidad del
coeficiente que nos ayuda a comprender esta relación puede llegar a variar en gran nivel según la
situación a la que se aplique, siendo ésta una de las principales críticas y limitaciones que posee esta
ley
A través del estudio teórico y econométrico de esta ley en la comunidad de Canarias durante el periodo
comprendido entre los años 2000-2015 se busca comprender y abordar los desafíos principales que
enfrenta la región con relación a las fluctuaciones entre los factores desempleo y crecimiento
económico en periodos de expansión y de recesión.
K1 Okun's Law is a tool that allows us to understand the dynamics between unemployment and growth
adjusted to different contexts. Created by Arthur M. Okun, this law establishes an inverse relationship
between unemployment and economic growth, mainly due to the behavior of labor demand and
efficiency in periods of expansion and recession. The magnitude and stability of the coefficient that
helps us understand this relationship can vary greatly depending on the situation to which it is applied,
this being one of the main criticisms and limitations of this law.
Through the theoretical and econometric study of this law in the community of the Canary Islands during
the period between 2000-2015, it seeks to understand and address the main challenges facing the
region in relation to fluctuations between unemployment and economic growth factors in periods of
expansion and recession.
