K1 Arcobacter spp., prevalencia, resistencia antimicrobiana, alimentos, mecanismo de transmisión AB Arcobacter spp. is a gram-negative bacillus considered an emerging pathogen that cancause infections in humans and animals. These bacteria colonize the colon after enteringthrough the digestive tract causing gastroenteritis, endocarditis, peritonitis, bacteremia, and diarrhea. Foods such as meat, milk and its by-products, seafood and water areconsidered as transmission factors for this bacterium. A bibliographical review wasconducted and the results highlight that the highest prevalence of Arcobacter spp. wasfound in chicken meat, seafood and water. Additionally, this bacterium has shown levelsof antibiotic resistance and the use of fluoroquinolones and tetracycline has beenproposed for the treatment of Arcobacter spp. infections in both animals and humans asthey exhibit good antimicrobial activity against this genus.
