After January 1st, 2020, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) set theworldwide limit for the sulfur content of fuels used by vessels in maritime industry at0.50%, reducing the limit that fuels have had until at 3.50%. This is what is commonlyreferred to as the IMO 2020 standard. In the years 2020-2023, the author of the present Research Work was on boardas an Marine Engineer, in the selected model ship, being present in the fuel transitionperiod to adapt to the mentioned IMO 2020 regulations. This transition period broughtwith it a series of problems of adaptation of the fuel oil fuel system equipment, whichgave origin to the research work that concluded in the Author's Final Degree Project(FDP).Based on the study carried out in the author's own FDP, we have considered inthis Master's Thesis, to see how the fuel change has affected the maintenance of theessential equipment of the fuel oil system. Two years, 2018 and 2023, have been chosen as a sample of the maintenance ofthe aforementioned fuel system equipment, more or less equidistant from the date ofimposition of the fuel change by IMO 2020, 01/01/2020, so that there would be nodoubt that the variations in the number of maintenance actions on the aforementionedequipment were a product of the fuel change transition period. Thus, after a brief Review and Background, the Results chapter shows the dataobtained in the maintenance of the 13 fuel system equipment analyzed. We have studied the frequency and development of the maintenance carried outon the aforementioned equipment, both scheduled (recommended by themanufacturer), as well as the extraordinary actions taken outside the previous ones.
